Wise teacher pleads guilty

A Wise County art teacher pleaded guilty today to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Naomi Miranda Peters, 26, of Scott County, received a 10-day suspended jail sentence and one year of unsupervised probation for asking a student to lie to police during an investigation of an alleged improper relationship with a girl student at Appalachia High.
Peters is an art teacher at Appalachia High and Appalachia Elementary.
The Wise County Sheriff's Office started investigating in March. Peters was not charged with having an improper relationship with the student, but she was arrested on the last day of school last month and charged with asking another student to lie to police, said Capt. Mike Holbrook, an investigator with the sheriff's office.
Holbrook said the investigation into the alleged improper relationship remains active.
